Report as Newcastle fight back to draw 2-2 with Bournemouth; James Tavernier scored and Malick Thiaw netted own goal to give Cherries two-goal lead; Harvey Barnes and Jacob Ramsey hauled Newcastle level; Bournemouth have lost seven points from winning positions this season
Newcastle fought back from two goals down as Jacob Ramsey’s late strike rescued a 2-2 against Bournemouth at St James’ Park.
Bournemouth appeared on track for their first win under Marco Rose after an early strike from James Tavernier and a Malick Thiaw own goal, only to blow a late lead for the third straight game.
Harvey Barnes halved the deficit a stunning curler just 27 seconds after the kick-off following Bournemouth’s second goal, before substitute Ramsey found the bottom corner in the 88th minute to continue Newcastle’s unbeaten start under Matthias Jaissle.
Bournemouth were the better side overall, attempting 17 shots compared to only eight from the lacklustre hosts, but Ramsey’s leveller follows crucial stoppage-time goals conceded in their games against Manchester City and Everton.
The Cherries have lost seven points from winning positions this term. They are the first side in Premier League history to score the opening goal in their first three games and fail to win any of them.
