Villa agree £38m deal to sign Joao Gomes from Wolves
Aston Villa have agreed a £38m deal with Wolves to sign midfielder Joao Gomes.
The midfielder is set to undergo a medical on Friday or over the weekend.
Villa are in the process of reshaping their midfield following the sale of Youri Tielemans to Manchester United and the long-term injury to Amadou Onana.
Villa would be another club interested in Joao Palhinha if Bayern Munich are willing to loan him out again.
The midfielder’s wages are quite high at the German club. He also still has two years left to run on his contract so a transfer fee would eat into their budget.
Palhinha is still weighing up whether to stay in the Premier League or – at 31 – go back to his native Portugal.
He has both former club Sporting and their city rivals Benfica trying to sign

Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes is travelling to England to undergo a medical ahead of a £35m move to Aston Villa, according to The Athletic.
The club are also reportedly in talks to sign Joao Palhinha on loan from Bayern Munich.
The deals accelerated following Youri Tielemans’ £35m departure to Manchester United.
